Drupal vs wordpress reddit9/13/2023 A WP expert and a Drupal expert are both going to build performant websites. To the point where most of my “WordPress setup” these days is disabling new features that are built for customers that could just have just as have used squarespce or wix.ĭoes drupal have better caching? Absolutely. They figured rewriting the PHP wasn’t going to happen, so they throw as much JavaScript at every new feature as possible. Is WordPress “grinding through updating their code”? Nope! Instead they’re slapping more and more layers of future-legacy code on top of it. Am I using “custom meta” for a complex problem or relational calculations? nope. WordPress is more of a CMS with some frameworky stuff.ĭrupal certainly can do what you need for most things, but I personally would rarely be in a place where I'm deciding between Drupal or WordPress. I see Drupal as a framework with some CMS-y stuff. But it just doesn't really matter that much for the vast majority of sites that are building on top of this.įor me, I would compare Drupal 1:1 with something like Laravel, not WordPress. WordPress is clunky under the hood in some baffling ways, BUT at the end of the day it's far simpler to work on, both for the dev team and critically, the users of the system.ĭoes stuff like poor (missing) indexes on the core tables annoy me sometimes? Yup. Doing really big, really complicated stuff in Drupal with a good sized team of devs is a great option. I've worked on fairly large corporate sites for the last many many years, and I've built a lot of sites using both Drupal and WordPress.ĭrupal is technically superior in many ways, but like most people I tend to reach for WordPress first.ĭrupal is very flexible, very scalable, very extensible.
